About this course
Takes delegates through the full policy cycle for HR policies, from identifying the need and researching legal requirements to drafting, consulting with management and unions, approval, communication, implementation and review. Delegates practise writing clear policies and procedures on topics such as leave, recruitment, overtime and discipline, and learn how to keep a policy framework consistent and up to date.
Why this course
Outdated, contradictory or vague HR policies lead to inconsistent decisions, grievances and successful legal challenges. Policies drafted without consultation often fail at implementation because managers and staff do not accept or apply them. A disciplined approach to policy development gives organisations a defensible framework and helps managers apply rules fairly and consistently.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to
- Identify gaps and conflicts in an existing HR policy framework
- Draft an HR policy and procedure in clear, unambiguous language
- Check a draft policy against national legislation and collective agreements
- Plan consultation with management, staff and unions on a new policy
- Prepare an implementation and communication plan with review dates
Who should attend
HR managers, HR officers, policy analysts, employee relations staff and legal or compliance officers who write or review HR policies. Experience of HR processes is assumed.
How it is delivered
Group drafting exercises on delegates' own policies or sample documents, policy review checklists, case studies and facilitator feedback on written work. It is available as a public course, in-house at your premises, or as live virtual sessions. Duration and dates are confirmed in your quote, and in-house groups can have the examples and exercises fitted to their organisation.
