About this course
Sharpens the writing of staff who already write regularly at work. Delegates practise planning documents around the reader's needs, structuring arguments, writing concise paragraphs, choosing plain language over jargon, editing for tone and accuracy, and producing memos, briefing notes, position papers and formal letters that decision-makers read and act on.
Why this course
Poorly structured documents waste senior management time, lead to misunderstood instructions and can expose the organisation to legal or reputational risk. Better writing shortens approval cycles and improves the quality of decisions taken on the basis of written advice.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to
- Plan a document around its purpose, reader and required decision
- Structure a briefing note or position paper around a clear argument
- Rewrite jargon-heavy text in plain, accurate language
- Edit their own and colleagues' drafts for clarity, tone and correctness
- Adapt writing style for internal, external and formal audiences
Who should attend
Officers, analysts, managers, secretaries and PAs who write memos, reports, letters or submissions as a regular part of their work. Delegates should already write competently in English and want to raise the standard.
How it is delivered
Writing workshops in which delegates edit samples and their own work documents, with individual feedback from the facilitator and peer review. It is available as a public course, in-house at your premises, or as live virtual sessions. Duration and dates are confirmed in your quote, and in-house groups can have the examples and exercises fitted to their organisation.
