About this course
Strategic leadership for people running hospitals, health districts and health programmes. Delegates work on setting strategy under budget constraints, leading clinical and non-clinical teams through change, governance and accountability, managing stakeholders from ministries to unions and communities, and using performance data to make decisions. The course closes with each delegate building a leadership plan for their own facility or programme.
Why this course
Health executives carry large budgets, scarce staff and public scrutiny, yet many were promoted for clinical skill rather than management training. Weak leadership shows up as staff burnout, poor patient experience, audit findings and stalled reform. Sharper strategic and people leadership helps executives get more from existing resources and hold their teams to clear standards.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to
- Formulate a strategic plan for a health facility or programme with measurable targets
- Lead clinical and support teams through a structured change process
- Apply governance and accountability practices that stand up to audit and oversight
- Use service and financial performance data to set priorities and allocate resources
- Manage relationships with health ministries, unions, funders and community structures
Who should attend
Hospital CEOs, clinical and nursing directors, district and provincial health managers, and heads of health programmes in ministries, SOEs and large private providers. Delegates should already hold a senior management post.
How it is delivered
Facilitator-led sessions built around health sector case studies, peer discussion of delegates' own leadership challenges, and a personal action plan reviewed by the facilitator. It is available as a public course, in-house at your premises, or as live virtual sessions. Duration and dates are confirmed in your quote, and in-house groups can have the examples and exercises fitted to their organisation.
