About this course
Introduces the core functions of a corporate or public sector treasury. Topics include the role and organisation of treasury, cash flow forecasting, working capital and cash management, bank account structure and relationships, short-term borrowing and investment, a first look at foreign exchange and interest rate risk, payment controls and treasury policy. It suits teams setting up or strengthening a treasury function.
Why this course
Without sound treasury management, organisations can run short of cash while holding idle balances elsewhere, overpay for borrowing or expose themselves to payment fraud. A well-run treasury keeps enough liquidity for operations, earns a fair return on surplus cash and protects payments. These foundations make later work on financial risk possible.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to
- Prepare a short-term cash flow forecast from operational data
- Manage working capital to improve the cash position
- Rationalise bank accounts and set controls over payments
- Compare short-term borrowing and investment options for cost and risk
- Identify foreign exchange and interest rate exposures that need managing
Who should attend
Treasury officers, finance officers, accountants and finance managers who are new to treasury or manage cash as part of a wider finance role. Basic accounting knowledge is assumed. Experienced treasurers should consider Advanced Treasury and Cash Management instead.
