About this course
Quantitative and qualitative data analysis for monitoring and evaluation work. Delegates clean and code data, calculate descriptive statistics and indicator values, disaggregate results by sex, age and location, test differences between groups, analyse trends over time, code and theme qualitative interview data, and interpret findings in plain language for reports.
Why this course
M&E units often collect large amounts of data but report only simple counts, leaving managers without the analysis needed to explain results. Staff who can analyse data correctly turn routine monitoring and survey data into evidence that shows what is working, for whom and why.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to
- Clean and code a survey dataset so that it is ready for analysis
- Calculate indicator values and descriptive statistics with correct disaggregation
- Test whether differences between groups or periods are statistically significant
- Code qualitative interview data into themes and link them to quantitative findings
- Write clear findings and charts that answer the evaluation questions
Who should attend
M&E officers, data analysts, researchers and programme staff who handle project or survey data in government, utilities, development agencies and NGOs. Delegates should be comfortable with Excel. No statistics background beyond school level is required.
How it is delivered
Hands-on analysis sessions in Excel using realistic M&E datasets, guided step by step by the facilitator, with group interpretation of results. It is available as a public course, in-house at your premises, or as live virtual sessions. Duration and dates are confirmed in your quote, and in-house groups can have the examples and exercises fitted to their organisation.
