About this course
Introduces the principles of electricity for staff with little or no electrical background. Topics include voltage, current, resistance and power, Ohm's law, series and parallel circuits, AC and DC supply, single-phase and three-phase systems, magnetism and induction, basic components, simple measurements with a multimeter, and the hazards of electricity and how to work safely around it.
Why this course
Many staff in utilities and industry work near electrical systems without a basic grasp of how they behave, which leads to unsafe acts and poor communication with technical teams. A sound foundation reduces accidents and prepares learners for further technical training in protection, testing and maintenance.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to
- Calculate voltage, current, resistance and power using Ohm's law
- Analyse simple series and parallel circuits
- Explain the difference between AC and DC, and single-phase and three-phase supply
- Take basic voltage, current and resistance measurements with a multimeter
- Identify electrical hazards and apply basic safety precautions
Who should attend
New technical recruits, apprentices, general workers, operators and non-technical staff such as supervisors, procurement or customer service officers in utilities and industry. No prior electrical knowledge is assumed.
How it is delivered
Facilitator-led sessions with simple circuit demonstrations, worked calculations and hands-on measurement exercises using multimeters and training boards. It is available as a public course, in-house at your premises, or as live virtual sessions. Duration and dates are confirmed in your quote, and in-house groups can have the examples and exercises fitted to their organisation.
