About this course
Introduces the framework and practice of prudential banking supervision. Topics include the Basel Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision, bank licensing, capital adequacy under the Basel framework, risk-based supervision, off-site monitoring of prudential returns, the place of on-site inspections, corporate governance requirements, enforcement and corrective action, and cooperation between home and host supervisors.
Why this course
Bank failures hurt depositors, the payment system and public finances. Supervisors need to identify weak banks early and act before problems spread. The course gives supervision staff a clear view of the international standards and of how a risk-based approach directs limited supervisory resources to the institutions and risks that matter most.
