About this course
Detailed planning and execution control for projects with tight deadlines and shared resources. Topics include work breakdown structures at work-package level, critical path and float analysis, resource loading and levelling, schedule compression, baseline management, mobilisation and start-up, and progress measurement and corrective action during implementation.
Why this course
Projects often slip in implementation because plans were never detailed enough to manage against or were not updated once work started. Better scheduling, resource planning and progress control give project teams in engineering, infrastructure and service delivery a plan they can actually use, and give management early warning of delays.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to
- Develop a work breakdown structure and activity list detailed enough to control the work
- Calculate the critical path and float and show their effect on deadlines
- Level resources across activities and compress the schedule by crashing or fast tracking
- Set a baseline and measure progress against it in each reporting period
- Prepare a mobilisation plan covering people, materials, approvals and site readiness
Who should attend
Project managers, planners, schedulers, site and implementation managers who already run projects and want stronger planning and control skills. Suits engineering, infrastructure, ICT and public service delivery projects. Basic project management knowledge is assumed.
How it is delivered
Practical scheduling exercises on paper networks and in project software, combined with an implementation case study and group work on delegates' own project plans. It is available as a public course, in-house at your premises, or as live virtual sessions. Duration and dates are confirmed in your quote, and in-house groups can have the examples and exercises fitted to their organisation.
