About this course
Practices for experienced project managers running large, high-risk or politically visible projects. Topics include project governance and sponsor relationships, integrated change control, earned value management, quantitative risk analysis, contract and supplier interfaces, managing stakeholders with competing interests, and diagnosing and recovering projects that have fallen behind schedule or over budget.
Why this course
Many organisations have staff trained in basic project management who still struggle once projects grow in size and complexity. Advanced skills in governance, earned value and recovery planning help project leaders spot trouble early, give sponsors reliable information and bring failing capital and service delivery projects back under control.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to
- Set up governance arrangements that define decision rights for sponsors, steering committees and project managers
- Apply earned value management to measure cost and schedule performance and forecast final cost
- Run an integrated change control process that protects the approved baseline
- Carry out a quantitative assessment of schedule and cost risk on a complex project
- Diagnose a troubled project and prepare a realistic recovery plan for sponsor approval
Who should attend
Project managers, programme managers and project office leads with several years of practical experience, working in utilities, government, state-owned enterprises or private companies. Delegates should already be comfortable with scheduling, budgeting and basic risk management.
How it is delivered
Facilitator-led sessions using complex project case studies, earned value exercises in Excel, recovery planning in syndicate groups and structured discussion of delegates' current projects. It is available as a public course, in-house at your premises, or as live virtual sessions. Duration and dates are confirmed in your quote, and in-house groups can have the examples and exercises fitted to their organisation.
