Advanced Credit Management and Debt Recovery

Course code FBARM 005. Central Banking, Finance and Audit.

About this course

Takes the credit cycle to an advanced level, from credit policy and customer risk assessment to collections strategy, restructuring and legal recovery. Topics include credit scoring and limit setting, monitoring ageing and early warning signs, segmenting debtors for collection, negotiating payment arrangements, using collection agencies and legal action, and measuring credit performance through days sales outstanding, bad debt ratios and recovery rates.

Why this course

Overdue accounts tie up working capital and, if not handled early, turn into write-offs. Many credit functions react to arrears instead of managing risk from the point of sale. A structured approach to credit control and recovery shortens collection periods, reduces bad debts and gives management clear information on credit risk across the debtor book.

What delegates will be able to do

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to

  • Draft or revise a credit policy covering terms, limits and approval authority
  • Assess customer creditworthiness using financial and non-financial information
  • Design a segmented collections strategy based on debtor risk and value
  • Negotiate realistic repayment arrangements with defaulting customers
  • Measure credit performance using days sales outstanding, ageing analysis and recovery rates

Who should attend

Credit managers, credit controllers, collections team leaders and finance managers with several years in credit or collections, in banks, lenders, utilities and companies that sell on account. Prior experience in credit control is assumed.
