About this course
Shows how to organise, clean and analyse data in Microsoft Excel for economic and financial work. Topics include structuring data tables, lookup and logical functions, text and date functions, data validation, PivotTables, Power Query for importing and transforming data, charts and dashboards, descriptive statistics and regression with the Analysis ToolPak.
Why this course
Excel remains the main analytical tool in most finance, planning and statistics units, yet many workbooks are error-prone, slow to update and hard to audit. Staff who structure data properly and use the right functions produce accurate analysis in less time and reduce the risk of reporting errors.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to
- Structure and clean raw datasets using tables, validation and Power Query
- Use lookup, logical and summary functions to combine and analyse data
- Summarise large datasets with PivotTables and PivotCharts
- Build a simple dashboard that updates automatically when data changes
- Run descriptive statistics and regression analysis using the Analysis ToolPak
Who should attend
Economists, analysts, budget and finance officers, statisticians and administrators who work with data in Excel. Delegates should be comfortable with basic Excel, such as entering formulas and formatting worksheets.
How it is delivered
Practical computer sessions in Excel using economic, budget and survey datasets, with guided exercises and a final task applying the techniques to delegates' own workbooks. It is available as a public course, in-house at your premises, or as live virtual sessions. Duration and dates are confirmed in your quote, and in-house groups can have the examples and exercises fitted to their organisation.
