About this course
Covers the full business intelligence cycle, from defining key performance indicators to delivering reports that managers use. Topics include data sources, extract-transform-load processes, data warehousing, dimensional modelling with star schemas, data quality, dashboard design, self-service BI tools and BI governance. Delegates build a small BI solution from raw data to a working management dashboard.
Why this course
Most organisations have plenty of data but still rely on manual spreadsheets and late reports to run the business. Inconsistent figures across departments erode trust and slow decisions. A planned BI approach gives managers one reliable set of numbers, frees analysts from repetitive reporting and makes performance monitoring routine rather than a monthly scramble.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to
- Define measurable KPIs that link to their organisation's strategic and operational objectives
- Design a star schema with fact and dimension tables for a reporting need
- Plan an extract, transform and load process with data quality checks
- Build a management dashboard that answers specific business questions
- Set out governance rules for data ownership, access and report version control
Who should attend
Management accountants, MIS and reporting officers, data analysts, M&E officers and IT staff who produce or manage organisational reporting. Delegates should be confident Excel users. Database experience helps but is not required.
How it is delivered
Practical sessions in which delegates design a data model and build dashboards in Power BI, with case studies and group critique of existing management reports. It is available as a public course, in-house at your premises, or as live virtual sessions. Duration and dates are confirmed in your quote, and in-house groups can have the examples and exercises fitted to their organisation.
